SUNSCREEN SUNDAY | The Duo: COOLA Green Tea Makeup Setting Spray and Cucumber Mineral Face Matte Finish Moisturizer

In my last two Sunscreen Sunday posts, I kept referring to what I would consider one of my holy grail brands when it comes to sunscreen - Coola. When green beauty was getting more mainstream, Coola was one of the few brands that made a mineral sunscreen that didn't feel like you were applying a thick tar across your face! Even though years have passed and green beauty has come a long way, Coola is still one of my all-time favourite sunscreen brands and in addition to my old faithful Cucumber Mineral Sunscreen, I picked up a new setting spray at Curlique that just needed to come home with me!

Three years ago, I picked up the Supergoop! Rosemary Setting Mist at Sephora Bellevue because at that time, I had never heard of a setting spray that was also a sunscreen. I used it religiously because it was such a novel product, but now that I have the Coola Makeup Setting Spray, I finally have something to compare it to and Coola reigns supreme for a number of reasons.

Firstly, unlike their Cucumber Mineral Sunscreen, this Green Tea Makeup Setting Spray SPF 30 is a chemical sunscreen, but with an ingredient content of 70% certified organic components. The first thing that I immediately liked about this setting spray was the scent. It didn't quite smell like green tea, but was relatively innocuous and didn't sting my nostrils like the Supergoop! one did. I don't know if it is because the Supergoop! one is SPF 50, but I really made an effort to keep my eyes tightly shut because it stung my eyes too. To be honest, the Coola one stings a bit too when sprayed directly on the face, but the instructions do say to spray first on the hands and THEN pat onto the face. My only gripe with this is I have no idea if I am applying enough sunscreen to my face if I am spraying on an intermediary body part so I still actually spray it directly on my face until I feel covered. It dries within seconds so don't open your eyes until you can feel your face "set".

The mist itself was also nicer than Supergoop! with a classic fine spray like most setting sprays and an easy-press nozzle. I have never understood brands that made nozzles flat and wide because they literally give me the "finger shakes" when I try to press down on them!

With the heat and the sun out for most of the day these last two weeks, being able to touch up my sunscreen coverage just by spraying is so incredibly convenient and I hope that there will be more setting spray sunscreens out on the market in the future!

I figured I should talk about the Mineral Face SPF 30 Cucumber Matte Finish Moisturizer since I have been using it so much, but this is by far one of the best mineral sunscreens I have ever used. It has a matte finish and if you didn't tell me this was mineral, I would have a hard time denying that it might be chemical because of the super smooth finish.

The initial white texture gives this away as a mineral sunscreen, but it doesn't take much to rub this sunscreen into an invisible barrier. It also sits well on to of skincare whether you do 4 or 10 steps so no need to worry about pilling and while silicones provide a smooth texture to this sunscreen, it also acts as a makeup base!

While I don't use both of these products at once when I first apply makeup, I will use the setting spray if I need to touch up during the day OR if I have forgotten to apply sunscreen in my routine especially in the mornings when I half alive. While I highly recommend the Cucumber Mineral Sunscreen regardless if whether you prefer chemical or physical, the Makeup Setting Spray has been a really nice mid-day touch up option.

You can find Coola products at Curlique and Sephora.
