Five years ago, I picked up the Ciate Chalkboard Manicure Kit and now five years later, I am actually using it! I think I never really got into the whole matte finish which is why I never used the kit, but with this week's CBB theme being "Back to School" I figured this was the perfect opportunity to try it out! It didn't turn out well and I swore a few times because the polish and chalkboard pens weren't as nice in consistency as I thought they would be, but what the hell here is is the manicure!
Essentially the kit comes with a matte "chalkboard" finish black polish which dries VERY quickly so that you can use the included chalk pens to doodle on your nails whatever your high school heart desires. The pens are not made of nail polish so if you DO make a mistake, you can just wipe off the design with water and start over. Right here is where I got mad. Maybe my pens and polish were too old. It's possible, but wiping the designs off was NOT an option! My mistakes stayed locked onto the polish and the harder I wiped, the more the black polish moved. I was not a happy camper, but it was late and I didn't have time to redo the manicure.
The pens I found a bit clunky as the tips were large and rounded so any sort of precision drawing was out of the question. I had a pink pen, but that one completely died so I resorted to pink acrylic paint which is why there is some precision in this manicure at all. While I liked the whimsical nature of a chalkboard manicure, I did not like this kit and I feel like I should l have used acrylic paint the whole way had I known what the pens were going to be like. If the pens had finer tips I think it would have all worked out. Once I had doodled a bit more, I sealed it all in with the provided Ciate Mattnificent Matte Finish Top Coat and went sheet mask shopping online LOL.
