KBEAUTY | Laneige Water Bank Soothing Gel Mask #31DaysofSheetMasks

I seem to be taking my sheet masks VERY seriously at this point so now that I know I can work sheet masks into my schedule (by planning out which ones to use and putting them out on the dining table) I will be attempting to sheet mask for 31 days starting August 1st! I have chosen some weird and wonderful masks to share with you all on Instagram and here on the blog so hopefully there will be some content coming up that will both educate and make you giggle!

Laneige is a pretty sexy brand right now (really, it always has been) with its presence in Sephora ever growing. It is a fairly affordable skincare brand and is a combination of Korean skintertainment and North American comfort levels of acceptance. Asian skincare is so much more advanced than North American skincare that some products just come off as strange even though the underlying mechanisms are the same (i.e. exfoliation, cleansing). I started using Laneige a few years ago when online shopping made Korean skincare so much more accessible so even though I still buy the new products online (you're too slow Canada!), I am delighted to know that I can find products right here in Canada!

The latest thing I have been loving from Laneige this summer, in addition to their Eye Sleeping Mask, are their Water Bank Soothing Gel Masks*! These are two-piece hydrogel masks for all skin types and are EXTRA refreshing when put in the fridge during summer heat waves!

This gel mask is "infused with hydro ionized mineral water and Biogen Technology" which the Sephora website describes as 24h hydrating complex with a complex of six minerals: zinc, potassium, sodium, manganese, magnesium, and calcium. When it comes to the rest of the ingredients, there were a surprising number of plant-based ingredients in the top 50% of the list. I also liked that two of the skin-conditioning ingredients were native to South Korea!

In terms of the mask itself, hydrogel tends to fit well because gel molds around facial contours quite well. The chin does tend to slide if you stand up and are moving around or if you talk a lot with the mask on. The fragrance of the essence was a bit strong upon opening the package, but disappears quickly. It also has a longer wait time than most of my sheet masks at whopping 30 minutes! There is a medium level of tackiness leftover that still remains a little bit even with moisturizer on top.

Final verdict: For the summer heat, hydrogel masks are incredibly refreshing and I do love how perfectly they fit my face. The fact that they can slide down over the lips does annoy me a little bit, but in terms of comfort, they really are quite lovely to wear. The ingredients in this mask were surprisingly better than I thought they would be and with zero alcohol content, these masks will do anything BUT dry out your skin! I found the essence almost a little too hydrating for me right now, but in the summer or in a drier climate like Montreal, tackiness would probably work!
