Glossybox Canada broke my heart 2 years ago by leaving me, but at least they didn’t do what Glymm did and take my money as well. Recently, Glossybox USA opened up their hearts to us Canadians so that for those of us who were left high and dry or never even got the chance to try the service, we now have a chance!
To keep this brief, this is a subscription beauty box service with three different plans: a monthly package ($21/month), a 6-month package ($126), and a 12 month package ($220). Canadians also pay an additional $5 shipping fee which in combination with the terrible exchange rate makes this beauty box potentially less value than it could be, but regardless the contents and presentation of my Glossybox* made me forget about it temporarily!
Thoughts: I have received this in a past Luxe Box and really loved how creamy this concealer quad was. The formula contains hydrating marula oil making this concealer silky smooth on the skin.
Full size: 0.14oz/$30.95 USD
I received: *FULL SIZE*
ModelCo | More Brows Eyebrow Thickening Gel in Medium/Dark
Thoughts: I use the Benefit Gimme Brow everyday so this looks like a complete dupe, but in terms of availability Benefit is much easier for me to get than ModelCo. I love these little mascara wand brow fillers for my brows, but it only really works if you have pre-existing hairs for the brush to “add to’. If you have no brows, especially at the tail end, this will not work for you.
Full size: 0.12oz/$18.00 USD
I received: *FULL SIZE*
Bellapierre Cosmetics| Cheek & Lip Stain in Pink
Thoughts: I actually really like Bellapierre Cosmetics until I started seeing it all the time at Winners. Ignoring that fact, this is a really cute colour and feels very smooth on the skin. It has a matte finish so I’m not sure how I feel about this on my lips, but on my cheeks sure!
Full size: 0.17oz/$19.99 USD
I received: *FULL SIZE*
Ouidad| Color Preserving Shampoo and Conditioner
Thoughts: I have been dying to try this brand of shampoo and the fact that it’s for colour-treated hair is perfect!
Full size: 8.5oz/$18.00 USD (Price source)
I received: 2.5oz/$10.00 USD (I’m guessing this is what the samples actually cost because based on the full size price, this size is worth about $5)
Orogold Cosmetics | 24K Multivitamin Day Moisturizer
Thoughts: I have dealt with this company as a consumer before and despised their sales tactics. They were a pop-up shop in the mall and were VERY aggressive in getting you to buy. The people they hired were sleazy salesmen with French accents and when a co-worker of mine tried to return something a day later, they said their machines didn’t do returns. The whole concept of gold-infused products is still debatable and for the price of this product, I’d rather just leave it.
Full size: 1.7oz/$178.00 USD
I received: Probably around 15mL worth? No clue.
Total Value of Glossybox: $88.94 USD (at least as I did not include the price of the Orogold moisturizer)
Final Verdict: If I hadn’t had that crappy experience with Orogold, this whole Glossybox would have been awesome. My favourite products would have to be the Ouidad S&C, ModelCo Brow Gel and the So Susan concealer palette. At closer to $30+ for Canadian subscribers, this box is and always will be on the pricier side but the curation and variety of products is quite good. I’ve always loved Glossybox and was always jealous of the US version so I’m glad we now have access to what seems to be consistently GOOD box assortments.
Would you want to give Glossybox a try?
