Dr. Jart has been SO HOT the last few years for first their BB Cream, which was the first product I ever tried from the brand, followed by the latest installment of sheet mask - the RUBBER MASK. When I think of rubber masks, I think of the messy modelling masks with the powder that you mix with water so for the longest time I assumed that's what these masks were. They were also not cheap at $15 a pop so I figured I would get to this mask in time, but when the Sephora VIB Rouge event rolled around, this was one of the few masks I had NOT purchased yet from Sephora (LOL) so not only did I buy Hydration Lover, but I also bought the limited edition Dr. Jart Best Of boxed set! Then I bought another one last week so needless to say, this review is going to be a positive one!
Purchased by me
Dr. Jart started in 2004 as the beauty child of South Korean dermatologist Dr. Jung and friend and entrepreneur Mr. Lee. In 2006, the first Dr. Jart BB Cream was launched and that's when I started paying attention as this was around the time I started wearing ANY form of tinted face makeup. Though Dr. Jart has a wealth of other skincare products now, this Rubber Mask is the first full skincare product I have tried and it will not be the last!
The Hydration Lover Rubber Mask is a two-step mask which "stimulates the delivery of actives into the skin" while literally cooling the skin to reveal a radiant and improved complexion. I always feel so odd describing the claims of these masks because most of it is just skincare jargon that we have heard repeatedly so when it comes to the world of sheet masks, I tend to focus more on the experience and if the ingredients are truly out of this world, I definitely try to bring attention to them.
In the ampoule is a "Phyto Keratin Complex" made of corn, wheat and soy protein and hyaluronic acid. This complex serves to improve moisture retention, support collagen synthesis and improve skin elasticity. It almost seems surprising that this complex IS actually in the top half of the ingredient list so that's something and though there is dimethicone in the ampoule, it is near the end of the list which I am okay with. The texture of the ampoule itself was smooth, creamy and there was plenty for my face and down my neck.

STEP 02 Hydrating Wrapping Rubber Mask: Water, Methylpropanediol, Chondrus Crispus Extract, Glycerin, 1,2-Hexanediol, Algin (soothing algae that cools skin and increases moisture retention), Calcium Lactate, Butylene Glycol, Codium Fragile Extract, Enteromorpha Compressa Extract, Chlorella Minutissima Extract, Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate,Panthenol, Allantoin, PEG-60 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Titanium Dioxide, Polymethylsilsesquioxane, Melia Azadirachta Leaf Extract, Melia Azadirachta Flower Extract,Coccinia Indica Fruit Extract, Solanum Melongena (Eggplant) Fruit Extract, Aloe BarbadensisFlower Extract, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Ocimum SanctumLeaf Extract, Curcuma Longa (Turmeric) Root Extract, Corallina Officinalis Extract,Silica, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Peel Oil, Citrus Limon (Lemon) Peel Oil, CitrusGrandis (Grapefruit) Peel Oil, Citrus Aurantium Bergamia (Bergamot) Fruit Oil, RosmarinusOfficinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Oil, Eucalyptus Globulus Leaf Oil, Lavandula Angustifolia(Lavender) Oil, Disodium EDTA, Ceratonia Siliqua Gum, Sucrose, PotassiumChloride, Xanthan Gum, Citric Acid, Sodium Citrate, Phenoxyethanol, Ethylhexylglycerin.
Now, for the FUN part! This two-part rubber mask is cool to the touch on its own and acts as a seal to prevent moisture from evaporating making it INCREDIBLY easy to wear this mask for the recommended 30-40 minutes! Piece of cake! The essence has a fruity scent and also contains eucalyptus for one of THE most refreshing masks I have ever worn! Why didn't I wear this during our Vancouver heat wave?! It stays on perfectly with no chin goatee and stayed cool the ENTIRE 40 minutes I had it on. It was fantastic!
I have highlighted the one silicone in the list that I don't see too often as it is one of the finer silicone particles used in skincare so I barely felt that characteristic "slip" on my skin like with larger silicone molecules like dimethicone or cyclopentasiloxane. It is also closer to the midway point as opposed to the beginning so again, I can live with it!
Mask Summary:
Scent: Citrus and aromatherapeutic
Duration: 30-40 minutes
Thickness: Thick, but then again it's rubber!
Mask Fit: SO NICE!
Tackiness: None!
Hydration: SO GOOD!
Final verdict: Firstly, I loved that everything I was smelling in the ampoule and the essence as it was free of additional fragrance. While I am not opposed to having artificial fragrance in my products, there is something peaceful about knowing you are smelling "nothing but the truth". It is obvious I loved this mask and on my IG stories, I really was quite smitten with how this mask, felt and smelled. I had been resistant to try such a trendy skincare product for fear of falling for the glitter and sometimes Hollywood Glam("Glow"...eerr), but my skin felt fantastic after using this AND I had a great experience WHILE using it. The ingredients were far more plant-based than I had expected and though I cannot attest to whether my skin's absorption coefficient was increased, I know it felt better, snappier and that I will be using this mask and other ones in the Rubber Mask series next month!
You can find Dr. Jart at various K Beauty e-tailers and Sephora.
