One of the very last in-person beauty events I attended was for the launch of Canadian brand Evalina Beauty back in November 2019. Founded by Samantha Legge, Evalina Beauty promises cruelty-free luxury beauty products that are designed to feel lightweight and bring out each person's natural beauty. I had planned a review for this brand a looooong time ago, but where has the last two years gone? I have no idea how it all went by so quickly, but here we are with the gorgeous rose gold and pink packaging of Evalina Beauty!
Dew Beauty Benefit Cream
This is kind of like BB Cream (the North American version which is lighter in coverage than the original Asian version) and comes in three shades: Fair, Medium and Dark. This seems a bit odd to have only three shades especially in light of all that happened in 2020 with the BLM movement so my guess is that the Dark sheers out quite a bit, but I would have hoped that after all this time more shades would have been added. I have the Medium shade and even though it looks ridiculously orange on my hand, it blends out to a very sheer lightweight finish on my face (see makeup photo below).
The texture is more on the watery side and contains squalane, grapeseed oil and light-diffusing pigments to give skin a very natural glow. There is a bit a dewy finish which I am personally not a fan of so I tend to apply powder on top. I find this formula is best applied with fingers or a makeup sponge in quick stippling motions and does last the whole day on me with setting powder.
Firstly, I adore the packaging of this highlighter with its mosaic pattern on the cap and substantial feeling tube! Definitely feels like a luxury product! This is a hydrating gel finish, water-based highlighter made with beeswax, jojoba, mimosa and sunflower seed wax that not only provides skin with lit from the heavens luminosity, but also protects and repairs dry skin. This has a doe foot applicator that can be used on top or underneath product (I use it under blush) and blends out easily with a sponge without being patchy. It does set within a few seconds so work quickly and use a light hand as a little goes a long way! I generally don't use liquid highlighters so this will probably find a home with someone else, but if I did, this would be the way to go!
I have mentioned a few times here that I LOVE a good eyeshadow stick as I am a SUPER lazy makeup person in the mornings, but still want to wear eye makeup and look professional since my job is heavily based on appearance. What I look for are neutral shades with a smooth, long-lasting finish and these Shimmer Eyeshadow Sticks are it! Coming in three shades: Rose Gold, Stardust and Pewter, these are pigmented enough to be worn on their own or under/over powder eyeshadows. You can even use all three colours together to make a little gradient! What I tend to do is apply the stick all over my lid and on my lower lash line and then smoke out the outer V of my eye with a darker powder eyeshadow. Wham, bam, done!
Note - though I tried these eyeshadow sticks without an eyeshadow primer, the colour intensity did not last (which I expected with my eyelid shape) so for me as long as I use a primer, the colour lasts all day. Pewter is my go-to shade and the one I use the most!
Flawless Face Blending Sponge
This latex-free blending sponge is super soft and can be used damp/dry and with creams, liquids or powders. This is a fairly bouncy sponge and is not as dense as some of other sponges I have tried. After trying the Beauty Blender, Real Techniques and Juno and Co., I still find the Juno and Co. Velvet Sponge to be the one I prefer using. This one from Evalina is perfectly pleasant, but not anything new for me.
Final verdict: In some ways I am glad I am only reviewing this brand now as our global point of view regarding beauty has been completely turned upside down! Firstly, interesting to see that the shade range is still three shades after all this time. The packaging is still stunning and for the pricing, I definitely would compare Evalina to a luxury beauty brand in terms of quality and presentation. The product I would most recommend from what I have reviewed are the eyeshadow sticks! I would hands down purchase these on my own and though I can purchase one for $30, getting all three for $75 is a MUCH better deal!
