MAKEUP | Mary Kay Spring 2020 Collection

I unboxed the Mary Kay Spring collection back in February on Instagram and quite honestly, was not sure if I would ever get to play with it let alone feature it here because of my work schedule as we were wrapping up the end of the fiscal, but things have changed and here I am on what is one of the longest blog post runs I have had since last year! I have NO IDEA how many people are reading, whether they are even on their computers or phones, or better yet reading blogs, but I have found that I often go back to past entries and feel so nostalgic because I am immediately transported back to that time in my life and often times feel relieved to have moved past a certain point! Hopefully, that will be the case with now and the next few months when I look back at Cosmetic Proof later on. I will also have a whackload of content for reference so that sort of satisfies the "gotta get this out there" side of me, but I hope you know that I only talk about things on here that are of interest to me and if anything, the last year has been very much focused on products I enjoy as opposed to what the masses do. Obviously that might mean lower viewership, but it's hard enough to get noticed now even if you do all the right things so I've pretty much just focused on being a little selfish and just talking about what excites me. Now, that I've done my daily monologue we can move on to the real matter at hand - the makeup!

Starting with the eyes, I have become a die hard fan of shimmery, longlasting eyeshadows and the new Mary Kay Liquid Eyeshadows were the first items I tore into as they are typically my go-to for a one-stop eye look. I never need any other shades to make these types of shadows work, just a blending brush to smoke out the edges and that's it!

Liquid Eye Shadows*

These eyeshadows work best with a primer and are a pigmented while feeling creamy and lightweight. It uses a doe foot applicator which I often start with and then blend out with my fingers. I try not to touch the shadow too much as it will actually start to lift and leave bald patches on my eyelids. I also found that even with primer, as the hours went by the shadow wouldn't look quite as fresh or as pigmented on my eyes. It looked shimmery, but you couldn't really tell what the actual colour of the eyeshadow was (speaking only to the shades "Pink Starlight" and "Light Beam").

Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner Pen in Intense Black*

I don't have a lot of lid space and while this was a very black eyeliner that yes, could draw both thin and thick lines, the felt tip itself was too big for my liking as I generally line my eyes very thinly which requires a much more tapered or thinner tip than this.

I decided to throw this photo in because I just so happened to put it to the test last week on a scheduled grocery run. I applied this around 8:30am and took this photo at around 10:30am. The eyeshadow colour is nice, but up close I could already start to see a bit of fading.

Limited Edition Beauty Unearthed Illuminating Bronzer*

I thought this bronzer would be shimmery, but it's actually pretty tame and subtle and just gives my skin a barely there sunkissed glow that a bronzing novice like me can totally handle.

Gel Semi-Matte Lipsticks*
Mary Kay Spring 2020 Collection

Four new shades of Gel Semi-Matte Lipsticks have been added to the extensive line of 40 and are known for their long-lasting and cushioning gel formula. The formula also has a "soft-focus effect" that makes the lips look plush and soft. I love a lot of things Mary Kay and on paper everything about these lipsticks sounds great, but there is something about the lightness of the formula that I've never been able to get used to. Yes, this finish feels totally lightweight on the lips, but it also makes my lips feel "separate from my body". That sort of silicone feeling that makes me very aware that I am wearing something on my lips. I just find the sensation a bit weird and after working with these lipsticks since their release a few years ago, I have come to the conclusion that they look good, wear well, but just leave me with an odd sensation. "It's not you, it's me".

Red Stiletto was my favourite shade on me! It looked really rich and brightened up my skintone!

Overall, this collection had some hits and misses for me and though I wanted to really love the liquid eyeshadows, they fell flat on certain qualities as I have used a number of longwearing shadows for work so I feel confident in what I am looking for though the shades were very pretty.
