SHEET MASK | Garnier SkinActive Fresh-Mix Sheet Masks

Garnier has been doing insanely well with their SkinActive line and though I have some reviews pending for their "bottled skincare", my eyes always jump to their sheet masks first as they were probably one of the earlier drugstore brands to have a solid selection of sheet masks that addressed specific skin concerns. There hasn't been anything new on the sheet mask front for awhile until I spotted these SkinActive Fresh Mix Sheet Masks on the shelf while waiting for a prescription at London Drugs and I grabbed them right away because the trend of "popping"the essence and infusing a dry sheet mask is one of my favourite Asian skincare innovations! It feels like I'm being all #girlboss with my skincare and just taking charge!

If you haven't tried one of these "mixable" sheet masks before, the essence and sheet mask are each in their own sealed off compartments and mixed when you are ready to use the mask. You start by folding the mask pack over until the essence area "pops" and then floods the dry sheet mask with essence. Then you massage the whole mask pack until you can feel the liquid covering the entire sheet mask. The packaging actually shows where the *pop* will happen - in the panel where the dropper and bottle are. It's quite cute really!

You can probably figure out from the packaging and the name of the mask that the purpose of this mask is to have the freshest dose of vitamin C (in this case, it's in the form of ascorbyl glucoside which is a stable form of vitamin C that can be broken down and absorbed into the skin as pure ascorbic acid). There is also sodium hyaluronate for hydration in what I would consider to be a fairly short ingredients list. Both of the featured ingredients are also close to the halfway point so they should be fairly effective at least on paper.

Garnier SkinActive Fresh Mix Glow Boost Sheet Mask

Glow Boost Mask Summary:

Price: $3.99 CDN
Scent: Very faint, but fresh
Essence Type: Very watery
Duration: 15 minutes
Thickness: Surprisingly thin!
Mask Fit: Very good
Tackiness: Medium and remained sticky until I went to bed a few hours later.
Hydration: Good
Other notes: Ah, I'm sorry I forgot to take a mask selfie! It's the same as the Aqua Boost mask below! I did have a glowy complexion after using this mask, but I don't know if I can move past how tacky the essence was even though I know that a lot of vitamin C products tend to feel this way.

Aqua Boost Fresh-Mix Sheet Mask

The Aqua Boost mask is one that anyone will love because who doesn't need a burst of hydration? The ingredients list reads almost identical to Glow Boost minus the ascorbyl glucoside and what I enjoyed most about this mask was the lack of stickiness upon removal. THIS I would repurchase just because it left my skin comfortably plump and clear-looking.

What really impressed me about these masks was that I was expecting them to be similar in fit and thickness to the SkinActive Moisture Bomb series, but they are actually quite different! These mask sheets are thinner, softer and sit much closer to the skin so totally up my alley and what are comparable to the nicer Korean sheet masks I have used.

Garnier SkinActive Fresh Mix Aqua Boost Sheet Mask

Aqua Boost Mask Summary:

Price: $3.99 CDN
Scent: Very faint, but fresh and airy. A little like laundry.
Essence Type: Very watery
Duration: 15 minutes
Thickness: Surprisingly thin!
Mask Fit: Very good
Tackiness: Very light. Definitely lighter than Glow Boost.
Hydration: Good and didn't need a moisturizer on top.
Other notes: Like Glow Boost, there was a TON of essence left in the package for the body!

Garnier SkinActive Fresh Mix Sheet Masks

Final verdict: I would most definitely get the Aqua Boost mask again as I felt it was simple, did the job and the mask fit well. I think some of you might like the Glow Boost because the glow is real and the tackiness is not unbearable, but if I had a choice I would opt to be without that feeling. I also found the essence easily "poppable" unlike some I have tried where I had to get my husband to assist! There is also a whackload of essence in each package so there is plenty to soak the mask and then for your body or face again if you'd like!

You can find the Garnier SkinActive Fresh-Mix Sheet Masks at all mass drugstores across Canada.
