SHEET MASKS | 7th Heaven Renew You 24K Gold and Charcoal Hydrogel Masks

I don't really know what happened to today, but it seemed to be both super chill and a bit tiring. I am also pretty sure I lost 3 hours to watching Jenny Can Cook because I was looking for an easy bread recipe and then realized I was watching Jenny Jones! I don't know if any of you watched trashy TV in the 90s, but she hosted one of those daytime shows with paternity tests and secret crushes etc. in the days of Ricki Lake and Maury Povich. She's actually got some super simple recipes and she's fun to watch so I totally recommend her channel! Now, I know in the photo below I have three masks, but ummm I seem to have misplaced the eye masks so this will be just a review of the 7th Heaven hydrogel and gold masks. I'm actually surprised I don't lose track of more sheet masks considering they are in six locations all over the apartment!

Last fall, 7th Heaven released some fancy new masks in the Renew You collection that looked like a serious step up from previous 7th Heaven masks with the introduction of never before used materials like hydrogel and 24K gold!

Detox & Replenish Hydrogel Mask*

Hydrogel masks are always so cooling and typically quite hydrating without being the least bit sticky. This mask also contains charcoal to draw out impurities and a 7 berry complex to calm, moisturize and plump the skin. The hydrogel is also charcoal grey which makes it kind of amusing to wear!

Detoxifying Hydrogel Sheet Mask Summary:

Price: $4.99 CDN
Scent: Floral
Essence Type: Light gel
Duration: 20 minutes
Thickness: Like other hydrogel masks
Mask Fit: Good, but a bit short on forehead
Tackiness: Zero
Hydration: Good!
Other notes: If the forehead was a bit longer, this would be one of the best fitting hydrogel masks I've tried!

24K Gold Firming Sheet Mask*

I was a little disappointed with this mask because it is touted as a "second skin" and seeing that it is in two parts, I had no doubt in my mind that this would be the case, but this was not the case. Though the fit held for the mask selfie, the mask was overall quite stiff and kept lifting at the chin. When I think of a mask that acts like a second skin, I actually think more of the hydrogel or at least a very thin cloth mask that many of the Korean masks are like. This fit is more like a foil mask.

What IS nice about this mask is the ingredients with hyaluronic acid being high on the ingredients list and of course the gold! Though I don't fully believe in the benefits of gold, the fact that I can see the little bits and massage them into my skin makes me feel pretty luxe. The essence was intensely hydrating and thick though which I suspect needed to be the case in order to help the stiffer material of the sheet mask adhere to the skin more readily.

Gold Firming 24K Sheet Mask Summary:

Price: $4.99 CDN
Scent: Floral
Essence Type: Thick gel
Duration: 10-15 minutes
Thickness: Medium
Mask Fit: Two pieces, but the mask was stiff and kept lifting at the chin even though there were slits.
Tackiness: High
Hydration: Very intense, but very sticky
Other notes: Left little gold flakes on my skin that could be massaged in.

Final verdict: Hydrogel for sure I would use again because it wasn't drying for a detoxifying mask, but still left my skin feeling refreshed and clean. The ingredients were quite nice (as with all 7th Heaven masks) and the mask was comfortable to wear. The 24K Gold mask was a miss for me mainly because of fit though I really wanted it to work when I looked at the ingredients list and product description.

I know we all love how affordable and effective 7th Heaven masks are and they have been my self-care drugstore purchase since my high school days when I needed to make my $20 allowance stretch the month. What 7th Heaven masks are your favourite and would these new Renew You ones be of interest to you?
