For those of you who have been at home for 2-3 weeks, I have to give you props because it has only been one week for me and I am already semi-ready to get back to work. I think because I can't really do much from home, I end up wanting to do a blend of blog and house things, but because my husband is actually working from home, I can't make noise like vacuum. I also can't organize my beauty things because that involves being in the beauty room which is now my husband's office 24/7 where they do their video conference calls and happy hours. This leaves me to the kitchen where I have been spending a large chunk of my time (like everyone else it seems!) which if you knew me, is very odd as I am not that domestic. I don't have good cooking instincts, BUT I know how to follow instructions and memorize things so really for me, practice makes perfect and having this time to do so is nice. Time has also forced me to revisit some sheet masks that I purchased back in Montreal from my last visit in 2018 where I made it my mission to seek out hidden kbeauty stores around the city starting with this 2-step biocellulose mask from Mediheal!
Purchased by me
I don't think I have ever been disappointed by a Mediheal mask and they are one of the more popular sheet mask brands in Korea known for great quality masks at an affordable price. Their masks are often fun and straightforward as well as more "technical-looking" like this one. The packaging itself looked a bit confusing when I first picked it up with the "alpha" and thermometer symbols and a lot of Korean, but that hyaluronic acid capsule at the top was what caught my attention as well as my love for the skin-like biocellulose masks. Other than a dose of HA for hydration, this mask also claims to decrease redness and irritation and lower the skin's temperature by 4.7°C. How anyone would EVER be able to measure that accurately at home I don't know, but I will say that my skin did feel cool once I removed the mask. This happens frequently with sheet masks though especially with biocellulose and hydrogel.
Step 1: Biocellulose Mask
The mask itself is made from the fermentation of coconut juice (this is the most common) and is said to be 0.5mm in width. The thickness is indicative of how long the bacterial fermentation occurs so the longer it goes on for, the thicker the mask. Once the mask takes longer to make, the price also goes up so to stay under $20, biocellulose masks in this price range tend to be anywhere from 0.5mm to thinner. Examples of thicker biocellulose masks are from For Beloved One and the Lumeclat by Bioesque masks which retail from $26-$42 CDN.
Ingredients: Water, Glycerin, Butylene Glycol, Alcohol, Glycereth-26, 1,2-hexanediol, Sodium Hyaluronate, Diethoxyethyl Succinate, Peg-60 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Salix Alba (Willow) Bark Extract, Betaine, Carbomer, Hydroxyethyl Acrylate/sodium Acryloyldimethyl Taurate Copolymer, Allantoin, Salicylic Acid, Phenyl Trimethicone, Potassium Hydroxide, Disodium Edta, Boswellia Serrata Resin Extract, Glyceryl Polyacrylate, Melaleuca Alternifolia (Tea Tree) Extract, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Hamamelis Virginiana (Witch Hazel) Extract, Centella Asiatica Extract, Portulaca Oleracea Extract, Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Flower Extract, Oenothera Biennis (Evening Primrose) Flower Extract, Calendula Officinalis Extract, Spirulina Platensis Extract, Elaeagnus Glabra Extract, Citrus Aurantium Bergamia (Bergamot) Leaf Oil, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Oil
Step 2. Capsule 100 Hyaluronic Acid Ampoule
The ampoule is a clear, smooth, watery gel that thankfully does not have a tacky finish. It dries down smoothly and my skin felt so fresh and hydrated afterwards! I would honestly buy this ampoule all on its own because I enjoyed how it made my skin feel so much! There is also quite a bit of product in this tiny little packet so I applied the ampoule in layers and it was fine, but I got impatient and stopped after 4 layers (yes, that's how much was in there!) and used the rest on both my legs.
Ingredients: Water, 1,2-hexanediol, Sodium Hyaluronate, Ethylhexylglycerin
Mask Summary:
Price: Can vary but I paid about $7 CDN
Scent: Very light citrus
Essence Type: Light gel
Duration: 20-30 min
Thickness: Medium (thinnest being Repiel and thickest being For Beloved Girl)
Mask Fit: Good with chin area being longer and able to cover until my larynx
Tackiness: None
Hydration: Good with skin having a silky smooth texture.
Other notes: Biocellulose can be tricky when peeling the plastic layers away from the actual mask so this one had a little tab at the chin to help get a "clean peel"!
Final verdict: Oh super nice mask that I would totally get again! I didn't want to get more than one as you just never know with sheet masks, but hopefully I will be able to find this again and grab a box as I think this would be great for any skin type. My skin felt hydrated, smooth well until the next day and though I read a few reviews where there was pilling due to the ampoule, I did not experience this probably because I did not do a thick layer.
You can find the Mediheal Capsule 100 Bio Seconderm series on eBay and what looks like a select number of Kbeauty etailers, but it looks hard to find!
