SKINCARE | The Charlotte Tilbury Goddess Cleansing Ritual

I seem to be exhibiting a bit of a pattern this last week when it comes to what I have been talking about in that a lot of my posts have been personal purchases over the last year or so. I go through these phases where I see something cool and new, envision a beautiful flatlay and post idea, tell myself I'm going to try the product "as soon as I finish what I'm working on now", then time starts to fly and now I'm quarantined and forced to come to terms with the fact that it has been 15 months since I purchased the Charlotte Tilbury Goddess Cleansing Ritual and am finally sharing my thoughts with you!

Charlotte Tilbury is a PRO when it comes to makeup. I have no doubts on quality whenever I see a new colour cosmetic come out from her, but when it comes to skincare I am a little more dubious. I am a fan of her Dry Sheet Mask and though her Magic Cream is talked about as the "it thing", I don't find the ingredients all that interesting so I haven't bothered looking into Charlotte's skincare products until I was once again, spending my lunch hour at Holt Renfrew, and spotted this cleansing duo! I like double cleansing so the idea of a deep cleansing citrus oil cleanser combined with a gentle purifying bamboo charcoal cleanser was intriguing and when it comes to skincare products, my criteria for cleansers are fairly straightforward in that all I want is: my makeup to come off, my skin to feel clean and a nice texture and scent ain't bad either!

Ritual 1: Citrus Oil Radiance Cleanse
The Charlotte Tilbury Goddess Cleansing Ritual

I was actually quite pleased to see a number of plant oils in this oil cleanser and the texture really was soft, cushiony and a pleasure to massage onto my face. The featured ingredients are watermelon seed oil, vitamin C and bacuri butter (comes from a tree in South America) which are all found in decent amounts in the ingredients list which is nice! Though having something like vitamin C sounds good on paper, it probably won't make much a difference to the skin as it is immediately washed off. I would suggest using a vitamin C serum if you are truly looking to brighten your skin.

This duo comes with a muslin cloth to remove product, makeup and dirt which I didn't think would be necessary, but when it came to removing the cleansing oil, the cloth was very much necessary as it did not emulsify into a milky consistency with water alone. I wet the cloth with warm water and then dropped it on my face, like someone casting a net, and I have to admit that my skin felt quite nice with just this step alone!

INGREDIENTS: CAPRYLIC/CAPRIC TRIGLYCERIDE, COCONUT ALKANES, GLYCERIN, C13-15 ALKANE, AQUA/WATER/EAU, COCO-CAPRYLATE/CAPRATE, SUCROSE LAURATE, CITRULLUS LANATUS (WATERMELON) SEED OIL, PLUKENETIA VOLUBILIS SEED OIL, ASCORBYL TETRAISOPALMITATE (oil soluble Vit C), PARFUM (FRAGRANCE), PLATONIA INSIGNIS SEED BUTTER, SUCROSE STEARATE, CITRUS AURANTIUM BERGAMIA (BERGAMOT) PEEL OIL, HELIANTHUS ANNUUS (SUNFLOWER) SEED OIL, TOCOPHEROL, CITRUS LIMON (LEMON) PEEL OIL, SUCROSE PALMITATE, BETA-CAROTENE, DAUCUS CAROTA SATIVA (CARROT) ROOT EXTRACT, DAUCUS CAROTA SATIVA (CARROT) SEED OIL, ASCORBYL PALMITATE, CITRONELLOL, GERANIOL, LIMONENE, LINALOOL

Ritual 2: Purifying Charcoal Cleanse
The Charlotte Tilbury Goddess Cleansing Ritual

I was a little bit leary of this cleanser at first because a charcoal cleanse is usually pretty drying, but I was so surprised that it felt more like an oil cleanse AND washed off milky white! This felt soft and smooth to massage in and turns white as you work it into the skin. The featured ingredients are bamboo charcoal and Nordic peat (naturally rich in minerals) which are found in the top half of the ingredients list and as bonus there is niacinamide for some extra skin brightening, but again, to really harness the effects of an ingredient like this, it is best used in serum form. This is probably the most gentle charcoal-based product I have ever used as it was an interesting hybrid between a cleansing oil and charcoal mask. It left my skin feeling clean, but oddly hydrated. Colour me impressed!

Final verdict: I will admit that I was impressed by both cleansers! I thought they would be overly fragranced which they weren't, but if you would prefer your fragrance ingredients to be closer to the end of the ingredients list, I totally get it. Both cleansers had such subtle and pleasant scents and did a good job of cleansing my skin. Would I use both of these together all the time? Not necessarily as I don't think I need a charcoal cleanse everyday, but I would definitely split these up as I quite liked the citrus cleanse on its own for daily use and the charcoal one as a second cleanse a few times/week. The next question is "would I repurchase?" As just cleansers, they are expensive at $55 for 75mL each so probably not anytime soon as I think cleansers should come in larger sizes for daily use. You could view these cleansers as a "spa duo" and more of a treat, but if they feel just like a nice cleanser who would want to do that? So, no I do not plan on repurchasing once I am done with these unless the ratio of product to price gets better.
