SHEET MASK | Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair PowerFoil Mask

I was watching someone IG video this morning about how she was getting nasty DMs from people about her content saying that she wasn't being sensitive to the current situation by "telling people to buy beauty products". Listen, we can't keep talking about COVID-19 24/7 because right now and for the foreseeable future, this is our new normal - quiet streets, staying local and using a ton of Internet. When the lockdown in Canada first started, I would spend hours each night getting lost in Twitter, Facebook and the news of COVID-19 saying it was how I would stay informed of what was happening. Yes, being informed is good, but 3-4 hours of "information" and walking away feeling scared shitless that things aren't going to get better wasn't exactly a great way to spend my time and it impacted how I felt in the future. When I compare how I am writing now to 3 weeks ago, it is evident I have adjusted by mental frame of my mind because right now, my husband and I are still healthy. My family is still healthy. The kitties are healthy. I'm basically living in the moment because I can't really think too far off into the future. My job may or may not be there next month when I am supposed to be able to go back and the situation changes daily so with no guarantees for anything, I seem to have automatically decided to live for today (and perhaps tomorrow), meal plan for two weeks and talk about beauty NOW.

PR gifted
I have a massive backlog of sheet masks (physically in a box) that are used and awaiting a review and date back to when I first started this whole #100DaysofSheetMasks in 2018. My hair was a different colour and I am grateful that I made notes on some of these masks because I should have featured this Estee Lauder PowerFoil Mask a LONG time ago!

I don't use a ton of Estee Lauder skincare, but the Advanced Night Repair line is probably the only line where I pay attention. The Synchronized Recovery Complex is one of this brand's most celebrated products and when I saw that this sheet mask was part of this line, I was intrigued as I have not had a chance to open the bottle of SRC I have at home, but maybe this mask would have enough of a WOW factor to get me to open the bottle and experience more?

Key features of this mask are a double dose of hyaluronic acid in addition to Estee Lauder's "ChronoluxCB technology". While I understand that every brand has to have something patented or "secret" with a fancy sounding name, I always roll my eyes if I can't find what that actually means, but from the looks of the ingredients hyaluronic acid is pretty low on the list, BUT there are quite a lot of plant extracts which I like.

Foil masks, while still in circulation, have sort of died out as a trend, but the idea behind them is to create a protective barrier or literal shield over the face to ensure that moisture and all of the stuff we are trying to infuse into the skin indeed goes in that direction! Foil is also less messy in terms of application.

Essence Type: Thick gel
Duration: 5-10 minutes (I generally go for at least 15 minutes as most masks are still moist with that timing)
Thickness: Fairly thick because it is foil AND cotton
Mask Fit: As good as foil can be and having two-part masks is always helpful!
Tackiness: Essence is very sticky and thick, but dry down is not too bad!
Hydration: Good!

Final verdict: I have tried a number of foil masks and while I do enjoy them and think the science behind them is cool, they aren't my favourite material. If you were just wanting to try a foil mask for the sake of trying new things, I would recommend The Face Shop Anti-Aging Foil Mask (review) for its similar hydrating effects and with a higher concentration of hyaluronic acid at a much lower price point of around $4. This Estee Lauder mask is a real luxury at more than 5x the price, but the ingredients are more plant-based and if you are already using the Advanced Night Repair serum and enjoy it, this would be an interesting add-on for your current skincare routine. I am fortunate enough to have been given the serum so eventually I will try it, but based on using this mask alone, I wasn't too wowed. It did work and giving me some gloriously hydrated skin, but I found both the feel and fit of the mask in addition to the results too similar to more inexpensive masks to warrant buying this on my own.

You can find the Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair PowerFoil Mask at www.sephora.com and all Estee Lauder counters (online for now).
