There's no mistake that when it comes to sheet masks, the ones that aren't just plain white get a little more attention so even though I try to space out when I use gold and silver masks, I always get a tiny "mask-gasm" when I know I am about to use a gold sheet mask! The last gold sheet mask I reviewed was the Holika Holika Gold Caviar Foil Mask and now I have an iconic gold hydrogel mask to share - the Nature Republic Ginseng Royal Silk Gold Hydrogel Mask! I know it's a bit of a mouthful, but this was probably one of my favourite hydrogel masks to date!
Purchased by me
This mask is definitely one for royalty first with its extra wide mask packaging and featured ingredients of ginseng root to revitalize the skin, gold to brighten, purify and prep skin for further absorption goodness and silk extract to firm and nourish. All of these featured ingredients are found in the first half of the ingredients list so already for a $6 USD mask, I'm already seeing some nicer ingredient concentrations compared to the $2 masks. I have also highlighted "cyclohexasiloxane" if you are wondering about the silicone content as many of you know of my aversion to silicones in my nighttime skincare routines. I made an exception here as the silicone was located after the halfway point of the ingredients list.
Ingredients: Water, Glycerin, Butylene Glycol, Niacinamide, Ceratonia Siliqua Gum, Synthetic Fluorphlogopite, Titanium Dioxide, CI 77491, Panax Ginseng Root Extract, Royal Jelly Extract, Gold, Silk Amino Acids, Chondrus Crispus Powder, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Polyacrylate-13, Polysorbate 20, Sorbitan Isostearate, Phenoxyethanol, Cellulose Gum, Cyclohexasiloxane, Ethylhexylglycerin, Adenosine, Disodium EDTA, Potassium Hydroxide, Fragrance
Hydrogel masks usually come in two parts for the best fit with the Ginseng Royal Silk Mask also having a slight grain to the surface that provided traction to prevent everything from slipping down when standing up! It was very comfortable to wear, this for a hydrogel material and with the exception of the nose being a bit long, this mask lasted comfortably on my skin for a whopping 40 minutes! I was even a little sad to take it off!
The scent was the only thing I did not really like as it smelled a lot like baby powder which is perfectly fine on a baby, but just not in a sheet mask.
Mask Summary:
Scent: Powdery
Duration: 20-40 min
Thickness: Thin for hydrogel!
Mask Fit: Perfect
Tackiness: Light
Hydration: Need to apply moisturizer
Final verdict: This mask is a definite repurchase for me as it was one of the thinner hydrogel masks I have used and even though I like masks like the Laneige Water Bank Gel Mask, the hydrogel was heavier and would slide when I was puttering around the house. Not this one though! It stayed in place and though the duration of this mask ranged from 20-40 minutes, taking the time out to have this mask on for 40 minutes was such a treat! I needed no moisturizer afterwards (or at least didn't feel like I had to) and my skin felt smooth, bouncy and without much tackiness. If you like the refreshing feeling of a hydrogel material plus rejuvenated and bouncy skin while looking super cool, this mask is for you!
You can find the Nature Republic Ginseng Royal Silk Gold Hydrogel Mask at various Korean e-tailers. I got mine at Beautytap.com!
