MAKEUP | Phytosurgence Flash Florescence In Bloom Collection #LunarFebruary

I am back almost a year later with more from Vancouver-based brand Phytosurgence! This brand also fits in with my #LunarFebruary theme as it is partially Asian-owned so yay! They have launched SO MANY more products since I was here last with their classic collection of cream eyeshadows and though I have realllly been tame with my makeup purchases, the Summer 2021 "In Bloom" collection was one that I had a challenging time saying no to so I picked it up during Phytosurgence's Black Friday sale as a Christmas gift to myself!

What caught my eye with this quad of eyeshadows was that a couple of them looked like they would make good eyeshadow toppers which I have liked doing the last little while for work makeup to add some pizazz to my look!

The "In Bloom" collection consists of four shadows (shown L-R in the swatch below) described as:

  • Defiant Dahlia: a deep rich dark brown with violet undertones and neutral/gold shimmer with a pearlescent shimmer finish
  • Wild Wisteria (one of my all-time favourite purples): a lilac with indigo and purple shimmer with a pearlescent shimmer finish
  • Fractal Freesia: translucent base with neutral gold shimmer and shimmer topper finish
  • Orchid Overload: translucent base with pinky, purple, silver shimmer with shimmer topper finish

Fractal Freesia and Orchid are the ones I was most curious about as during the height of the pandemic, I started delving into my collection of eyeshadow toppers (I didn't even know I had any!) and realized how easy it was to turn a basic eyeshadow shade into one of shimmery glory! These swatches looked good on their own as well so I knew I couldn't go wrong with getting these too!

These are cream eyeshadows that are best applied with fingers and though in my photo the eyeshadows look a bit stiff (it had been very cold and dry in Vancouver by the time I opened these which may have had an effect), they pick up plenty of pigment and apply on the eyelid smoothly! The formula is thinner than how most conventional cream eyeshadows feel and you might not feel like you are picking up much shadow with your fingertips, but everything you see on my eyes is all done with a couple of finger pats and swipes! These shadows pack a punch with the colour staying on for my entire work day. I still use primer though as my eyelids can get oily throughout the day. I feel they have gotten more oily since wearing a mask and I have no idea why!

Final verdict: In short, SUPER happy with this collection and I waited months to treat myself to it to make sure that I REALLY wanted it! I love the versatility of the two shimmer toppers and honestly, even Wild Wisteria and Defiant Dahlia are lightweight enough in formula to enhance an existing eyeshadow underneath. As much as I want to use all of my eye products in the mornings, I am generally too lazy/half asleep to think much about what goes together with what, but these eyeshadows make it so easy! Whenever you get the chance, pick up some Flash Florescence shadows because you will fall in love with the formula, the shades and the brand!
